City of Rockford to become a Cool City!

ROCKFORD – June 9, 2008 – In honor of the June 11, 2008 signing of the Cool Cities Agreement, the City of Rockford and the Winnebago County Green Coalition Group will kick off the celebration with "Green Week". The week will focus on positive practices, which encourage environmental sustainability.

 

Highlights throughout Green Week will include:

Monday, June 9, 2008: Start of Recycle Week

Tuesday, June 10, 2008: "Green Thumb Day"

Wednesday, June 11, 2008: "Be A Green Consumer Day"

Thursday, June 12, 2008: "Green Transportation Day"

Friday, June 13, 2008: "Life’s a Picnic!"

Saturday, June 14, 2008: "Eat Local Day"

 

In support of the Cool Cities pledge, the City of Rockford and the Winnebago County Green Coalition Group will form a Citizens’ Advisory Board. The Advisory Board, will be known as the Greater Rockford Environmental and Educational Network (G.R.E.E.N.) and will work to identify measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases, increase environmental awareness, and encourage better growth and planning activities that will work to sustain our environment. The committee will identify policy and practices that are both internal to city government as well as identifying community outreach and educational programs. G.R.E.E.N. will be a subcommittee in the RMAP organization.
